Brendan resides in Whiteleas farm in Stamullen Co Meath. From here he owns and manages Whiteleas farm a 90-ha milking platform. The farm has operated as a pure dairy enterprise since 1981 and is home to the prizewinning Stanmullen herd of 156 pedigree Holstein Friesian cows plus followers. Brendan has developed the high EBI pedigree herd operating from a grass-based system and a market for replacement females. His experience with the Irish Grassland association began back in 1968 when he attended his first meeting, the summer tour of that year with his father a long-term attendee of IGA events. Brendan continued supporting events and became a long-term serving member on council during the late 80’s and early 90’s. He took up the mantle of president for the 1992 to 1993 term. During his era on council the focus had shifted more to grassland management with extending the grazing season one of the hot topics of focus. During his presidential term he was centrally involved in the BGS summer tour of Cork during which saw some 200 Delegates attend. He would credit the Grassland Association for providing an opportunity to visit first class farms and hear from farmers and researchers that are at the cutting edge of technology development and adoption as well as the social aspect that the association provides.
