Jonathan Dwyer is a dairy and beef farmer based in Co. Laois. After completing a degree in commerce, he went on to complete a Master’s in International Management at Dublin City University. His postgraduate studies included a particular focus on the challenges and opportunities associated with managing scale in Irish dairy farming following the abolition of milk quotas.
Since returning to farming full-time, he has been involved in the continued development and expansion of a large-scale, predominantly grass-based dairy enterprise.
He has also been extensively involved with Macra na Feirme and the wider agricultural community. He served as North Tipperary National Council Representative (NCR), sat on Macra’s Agricultural Affairs Committee for a number of years and served on the Board of Macra. Through these roles, he was involved in representing the interests of young farmers and contributing to discussions around agricultural policy and the future of Irish farming.
Jonathan is also a co-founder of Make the Moove, an initiative established to support mental health and wellbeing among farmers and people living in rural Ireland. The initiative developed from farmer-led events into a broader programme focused on encouraging conversations around mental health and connecting rural people with appropriate supports.
His interests today centre on progressive dairy farming, technology and innovation, developing people and building efficient, sustainable farming systems, alongside a continued commitment to the wider agricultural and rural community.
