Michael, a business entrepreneur, took dairy farming to a different scale, building a large-scale, international dairy production business with milk production enterprises across several continents. Initially Michael managed a number of units in Ireland. He then turned his attention to developing a dairy production business in New Zealand followed by another milk production farm in Missouri in the United States with some 21,000 cows across 29 units.
A keen interest in adult education led Michael, along with fellow former IGA president Con Hurley, to establish the Positive Farmers Conference and also organise a number of study tours as well as facilitating young farmer groups. Michael has been director of several businesses and several charities including the Hope Foundation.
During his time on the Irish Grassland Association Michael was a keen exponent of promoting best practice in grassland management and sought out expertise from abroad, in particular New Zealand, to speak at various IGA Events to keep members to the fore of the latest developments in the industry.
