Peter Doyle

Council Member

Peter is a Research Officer based at Teagasc Grange. He graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) in 2017 with a BAgSci in Animal and Crop Production. He subsequently completed a PhD at UCD, where his research focused on forage-only beef-production systems, and was named Teagasc Walsh Scholar of the Year in 2021.

Peter is responsible for the Derrypatrick Research Suckler Herd at Teagasc Grange. His primary research focuses on improving the efficiency of suckler calf-to-beef systems through the use of clover and animal genetics. His other research areas include enteric methane emissions, nitrogen-use efficiency, meat quality, cattle-grazing behaviour, herbage growth and quality, and modelling feed costs for livestock-production systems.

Peter is also involved in his family’s suckler calf-to-beef and tillage farm in Co. Wexford. The farm operates autumn- and spring-calving herds comprising predominantly Limousin-based cows. Male cattle are finished as under-16-month bulls, while heifers are finished at 23 months of age. Home-grown barley and fodder beet are used to feed finishing cattle.
